Hot Sand! Ooh! Aah!

We're lucky to have the beach in our backyard. The weather has been warm enough that we took a morning outing to the beach today. I thought the fresh ocean air and playing in the sand would be conducive to a long, nice nap--not for me, but for P.
I definitely do not need any help to get me to nap, but alas, no naps in my future anytime soon!
I grabbed P's bag of tricks, sand bucket o' toys, towels, water, and we were off!
Once we got to the sand from the parking lot, we took off our shoes (easier for P to walk). The sand was a little warm. P was complaining, "Hot today." But I basically said, "Nut it up, not too much further!" It was a ways away. Also, in the back of my mind I thought, if the sand is this warm now, it'll be much warmer when we leave. But I very quickly shrugged that thought off...
We had a nice time playing in the sand. There were tons of sand dollars along the beach, whole and unmarred. The weather was perfect, the sky very blue, and the waves crashed in the background. There was hardly anyone on the beach, just an occasional passer-by.
Finally, it was time to go. The hard-packed sand was nice and cool, but as we got closer to the soft sand--it was HOT! My feet were burning. I couldn't let poor P walk on it. So, I lugged all our crap and carried her all the while cursing and screaming, HOT HOT HOT OOH AAH. I was hoping someone would happen along so I could beg them to grab our shoes by the trailhead.
I stopped a few feet away. Okay, I needed to nut it up. Go! Went a few more feet and just couldn't take it anymore. My feet were on fire! so, we sat, hoping someone would come along and help. How ridiculous I must've looked!! Finally, I came to believe that we were on our own. I grabbed P and all our stuff and just ran! P thought we were playing a game and laughed the whole way. Ha. Ha. I was laughing inside. Yeah right! Our shoes! Our shoes! I never saw a prettier site!
Lesson learned, always take your shoes along with you.
